Citizenship
Helping you take the next step in making Australia home.
Becoming an Australian citizen is an important milestone. For many people, it recognises the life they have built here and their commitment to Australia’s future.
Citizenship by Conferral
Citizenship by conferral is the usual pathway for eligible Australian permanent residents. Eligible New Zealand citizens holding a Special Category visa may also apply without first obtaining a permanent visa.
Eligibility involves more than the time you have spent in Australia. Your residence and immigration history, overseas travel, identity, character and ongoing connection to Australia can all be relevant. Most applicants aged between 18 and 59 will also need to sit the citizenship test.

How We Can Help
GPS Migration Australia can help you assess whether you meet the requirements, understand how overseas absences may affect your application and identify when you may be ready to apply. We can also advise on citizenship applications for children and the documents required for your family’s circumstances.
Our citizenship support may include:
-
assessing the citizenship pathway available to you
-
reviewing your residence, visa and overseas travel history
-
advising on applications for children
-
preparing a tailored document checklist
-
reviewing identity, citizenship and character evidence
-
preparing and lodging your application
-
communicating with the Department of Home Affairs and responding to requests for further information
-
explaining what to expect at the citizenship test, interview and ceremony, where applicable.
Whether you are ready to apply or planning ahead, we take the time to understand your circumstances and give you clear guidance on your next steps.
